Celebrating Success: Strategic Sports Thanks the Team Behind Our Red Dot Award-Winning Helmet
When Strategic Sports received news of their prestigious 2024 Red Dot Design Concept Award for the Strategic S-460 RMR model, the excitement was palpable. Managing Director Norman Cheng recalls the moment: “After the exhilaration subsided, we discussed who was going to Singapore to attend the Award Ceremony.”
Peter Huang, the Engineering Lead, and Alan Okamura, the company’s Product Designer, were natural choices to attend the award ceremony at the neoclassical, 100-year-old Capitol Theatre in Singapore’s cultural district, as they had spearheaded much of the product development. However, with only two spots allocated by the Red Dot organization, Cheng made the executive decision. “I told them, ‘Sorry boys, executive privilege. Our Director of Sales Sherry Tai and I will represent the company. We will bring back the bacon.’”
Cheng sees this award as a testament to the dedication and vision of the team that worked on the RMR product for three years. “With 98% recycled material content yet 100% recyclable, we are one step closer to achieving our dream of a genuinely circular loop for the helmet industry,” he said, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in their mission.
The RMR represents the next level of environmental responsibility, being made entirely from recycled materials such as ABS plastic, EPS foam, polyamide, and PET. Designed for easy disassembly and recycling, it eliminates the need for glue, ensuring a fully sustainable lifecycle.
The goal was to create a helmet that blends eco-consciousness with the premium quality, fit, and style that cyclists expect. The result is a versatile, stylish helmet that meets all impact test standards while contributing to a greener future. This ambitious project was a flawless collaborative effort between the engineering team, the Sustainability Team, and top helmet designer Alan Okamura, a combined effort that Cheng is proud to celebrate.
Thank You, Strategic Team!
